I enjoy simple things: solitude, cheap sheet cake, and sunlight. I also believe that white is, in fact, a color. Bring me fresh flowers and we can be friends.

I Want Wednesday (on a Thursday)

Been itching for a change and this Large Format Print by Samantha French is exactly what I could  use.     This never ending winter has me re-considering my winter wardrobe and I'm pretty sure this COS sweater and Acne Velocite Jacket are dire necessities at this point.  I love my gold Nixon Time Teller and this one is a perfect spring update.  On that same token, I need a sunglass change up and light pink is calling my name - this Raen Remmy pair fit the bill just fine.  And finally, I am STILL lusting (and seriously considering) taking the plunge on the Michael Kors Miranda handbag
February 5, 2014

It's February 4th.

{NYE 2014.  Shah Abbasi Hotel: Isfahan, Iran}

My 2014 planner just came in the mail and I've just gotten around to acknowledging the new year. I'm 35 days into 2014 and 35 days into being 27 years old. BUT this year feels just a little different than all the rest.  Call me cliche, but quite frankly, I don't care what you call me.  In the past 35 days I've already taken a once-in-a-lifetime trip, come down with a nasty cold while trekking through a winter intensive course, and torn my hamstring while most were hitting the treadmill due to new years resolutions.  In the past, I would have moped, taken a sick day, or taken opportunities that are presented to me for granted.  But in these 35 days, I've done none of the above, and it wasn't because I had written down some sort of meaningless resolution stating that I would not do A, or B, eat less of C, and do more of D.  I'm really not one for resolutions; I never really understood why you had to wait until January 1st to resolve.  If you have something to resolve, resolve it - why wait?

The main difference I feel this year is a solid sense of self.  A sense of knowing who I am, what I want, and what I need. Maybe I just needed to inch over that crest of the mid 20s hill to feel comfortable taking risks and standing up for myself, but either way, I'm here.  A Capricorn, I'm naturally goal oriented.  I've spent the last 27 years working towards various goals: getting into college, finding a job, moving to New York, buying an apartment, getting into an MBA program, advancing my career, the list goes on.  All of a sudden, I feel inclined to stop looking for the next step and start looking at the right now.  Our lives aren't promised and there is no rewind.  If you love somebody, let them know now; they are not infinite immortal beings.  If you want a certain future for yourself, create it now; don't wait to get to it in your string of accomplishments; they never end.

And so, starts 2014.

Be present and self aware. You are in control.

Weekend in Pictures

I spent the weekend in Delray Beach with two of my best friends from high school.  It was perfect: swimming in the ocean all day on Saturday, seafood dinners, some high school kid antics, and sandy happy hour right off of the beach.

I don't know many people who can say that they still have a lot in common with the friends they grew up with, but I feel extremely happy that I can say so for myself.  Having friends that feel like, and actually ARE family make for the most meaningful relationships and I am always thankful that our friendship has only gotten stronger as we've grown up.  Husbands, boyfriends, lack thereof - it just keeps getting better.

And if anything, we'll always have the love of a great cocktail in common.
I love you guys!!!

Office Makeover

It was time for a fresh new look in our office reception area (as in, it was time 10 years ago, and we just got around to it now..).
Guess who got the responsibility of carrying out the update?

Guess which option I went with?

Weekend in Pictures

This weekend was pretty uneventful - in the best way. I left work around noon on Friday for some comp shopping and ended up having a great day with myself shopping on the Upper East Side.  I ended the day with a run (weather was PERFECT) and hopped into bed early with a movie.  I continued my antisocial weekend into Saturday and took care of errands I've been meaning to get done, went to the gym, and got some good sleep for the second night in a row.  Class all day Sunday, a little football, and dinner with my parents. It was a good calm before the storm as this week will be insane as I finish up my intensive course.  I'm a free woman on Saturday!  Until Tuesday, when fall semester starts...
