About Me

My photo
New York, New York
I enjoy simple things: solitude, cheap sheet cake, and sunlight. I also believe that white is, in fact, a color. Bring me fresh flowers and we can be friends.

214 Lafayette

Every once in a while, I come across a property in Manhattan that reminds me how insane this city is.  Sometimes I get in a mode where I think everything in New York City is small and old and dirty, and nobody has outdoor space. I start to wonder why I live here, and then I stumble across a property like 214 Lafayette.  Similar to the time I mentioned 190 Bowery, this building is hidden behind the facade of an old power station.

The townhouse is 13,000 square feet - including a 925 square foot private terrace and private indoor pool (complete with underwater viewing portals from the basement - WHAT?).  You can feel tiny under the 20 foot ceilings and open industrial chef's kitchen. Exposed brick and modern amenities while maintaining the detail of the historic buildings makes this townhouse my DREAM HOME. I am in awe.

Now, I've just got to figure out how I'm going to get myself into this house.  Anybody have eighty grand a month? Let me know, I have the perfect rental for you, and on top of that, a new BFF.

Closet Time Lapse

I'm still thrilled by the luxury of having a walk-in closet.  I haven't taken it granted for one second since I moved into my studio.  And since then, my closet has come a long way.  I recently added a large leaning mirror to the back of the closet to add depth (and more importantly to replace the cheap door mirror I had - TOTAL fat mirror).  It fits perfectly and makes getting dressed even more fun.

When I moved in, my closet looked like this:

After The Closet Factory worked their magic, it looked like this:

I then found this chandelier I fell in love with at Home Goods and had it hung, which I loved outside of the closet but wasn't sure about INSIDE of the closet. After living with it for a few months, I've made the decision that it just doesn't work.  It is too intricate and makes the small space look too busy.  I think I've decided to replace it with a simple lampshade pendant.

Slowly but steady on this little space, huh?

Craig's List Find: Bar Cart

I've been searching for a bar cart for what seems like centuries. I came across a few that caught my eye over the years (see here ) but never anything that really felt like exactly what I wanted.

It seems the wait has been worth the while because this weekend I picked up this guy:

The glass keeps it from looking too vintage and the siding is just the right amount of detail. I do plan on changing the wheels and most likely slapping on some punchy high gloss paint, but I can't wait to share the final outcome!

Friday Musings

 {a recipe I'd like to test out}
 {serious swimsuit ready motivation. Wouldn't mind a Sunday hike}
 {if I were to skateboard...}
 {girl kills it every time}
{loving this. white white white white}

Happy Father's Day to all the dads in the world. Dads are pretty cool, aren't they? How do they know everything and more importantly, how are they always right?

Oh, yours isn't? I guess mine is just THE coolest.

Interior Crush

I scroll through hundreds of images of interiors a day. Sometimes they start to all look the same - until one just really tickles my fancy.  Take Danielle Moss's Chicago apartment. I am obsessed. It's my kind of perfect - flooded with bright light, whites, gold, and grey.  Every surface is meticulously styled and the whole thing stays perfectly cohesive.

The fireplace is perfect too. I want it ALL.

Quick Fix

I bought these mini succulents a couple of months ago during an early morning at the Union Square farmers market.  My original plan was to snag some more and make myself a sick West Elm inspired terrarium full of succulents and layered dirt, but a couple of real life issues got in the way and they sat on my counter in their original pots for three months.

UNTIL this past weekend, where I got sick of staring at my unfinished plans. I had just finished burning a candle that was in this pretty dish so I took the ten minutes to re-pot the succulents.  The bowl still needs a few more plants, but it sure as hell beats the original pots, no?

Plus, I recycled a dish. Points for that too!

Friday Musings

Happy Weekend!

Need to whip out my white converse more often

The single coolest doorknob I have EVER stumbled across. I NEED this.

Digging these shelves. Think it might be the move for above my dining banquette

My best friends are honeymooning along the Amalfi Coast. I wish I could meet them here:

Need a dress for a black tie wedding in August. I'm kind of set on Nicole Richie's simple silhouette and slick back, no?
