About Me

My photo
New York, New York
I enjoy simple things: solitude, cheap sheet cake, and sunlight. I also believe that white is, in fact, a color. Bring me fresh flowers and we can be friends.

Room of the Day

Saturday night in the cab on our way home, after a bit of excess Halloween-ing and in full costume, I made the mistake of stating that I'd rather live on a secluded apple orchard in a barn than in the city.  My friend Allison was truly appalled and did not want to believe me.

This room of the day is my case and point.

Don't get me wrong, I love the city.  But I'd like to add a country home to my wish list.

Swan, I'll have you over for dinner.  Then, we can hash it out for real.

Friday Musings

Last night I had broccoli (the frozen bag kind) in chicken broth for dinner.

This morning I literally laughed out loud and went back to sleep when my alarm went off at 5:45 to get to my spin class.  I slept until 7:30 and was late for work. Additionally, I spilled coffee front and center on my white top about a block and a half away from my apartment.

Finally, I texted my mother this morning to remind her that it's my father's birthday today.
It is not.
It is my mother's birthday.

Friday muse on that.

Happy birthday mom!

{John's} Room of the Day

Wanna talk about crazy lead time on a DIY project?  OK, well LAST CHRISTMAS (as in 10 months ago) I made my friend John a DIY Christmas present.  This past weekend, I got to see my work put to good use as he moved into a new apartment with actual desk space in his room.

Last November, I snagged a vintage frame at my local flea market that was perfectly distressed in the perfect color, and the perfect amount of decoration as to not be too feminine.  Right when I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do with it.

 I had a little bit of random drywall (maybe? I don't  know what it was, but it did the trick) in my apartment that I cut to size and painted with a few coats of chalkboard paint.

Finally, I nailed that bad boy into the back of the frame and called it a day.  This sounds very easy, but it actually took me forever because I didn't have ANY of the right tools (as in, I cut the board with a kitchen knife and used nails that were too long, so they were coming through the other side of the frame).  But none of that matters now - because look how awesome John's desk nook is!!!!

PS - John built that desk from an old ship door, and he can cook - WINNING. He also apparently needs to pay Costa on Oct 25th. How would he ever remember without my present?

Weekend in Pictures

 {Wine tasting at Unionville Vineyards}
 {Lambertville in the fall. Literally picture perfect}
 {An ideal fall Saturday}
{Sunday morning cooking lessons from John}

Since grad school is in full swing, it seems like Saturdays are sacred.  Therefore, this weekend, it was spent perfectly. The perfect weather, coupled with good company, an early afternoon wine tasting, and a lingering late lunch in Lambertville really hit the spot.  Even so, losing my Sundays is truly devastating.  Second to Thursdays, Sundays used to be my favorite day of the week. It was painfully difficult to set my alarm and drag myself away from friends, brunch and abundant bloody marys, homemade crab cakes, and football yesterday.  I have a feeling it will won't get any easier.

Room of the Day

This fresh, crisp weather has me straight up BEGGING for a mountain getaway.  Every morning I open my eyes, close them real quick, and then when I re-open them there is a minuscule part of my brain that thinks there's a chance I'll magically wake up on a mountain in Colorado. Then, I realize I'm in my cute little apartment in New York, and that makes me happy, my thought process ADD kicks in, I boil water for the french press, and I move on with my day.

Most mornings go something like that.  I also brush my teeth in bed. Fun fact that about me I recently discovered was strange.

[Long] Weekend in Pictures

After going from NYC > LA > NYC > HOUSTON > NYC > SAN FRANCISCO > NYC in a whopping two weeks, I'm baaaack. Feels good to be home. I went nuts at work yesterday and today I feel somewhat caught up on life. San Francisco is never a disappointing trip and given the fact that my cousin got married (and has a growing baby Olive inside her belly), it was better than most. I'll have to sort out my pictures for that one but it was a beautiful wedding on the water with Golden Gate Bridge views, and abundant twine, lace, and burlap. My kind of party.

iPhone snaps galore

 {by Sunday I was dying for greens and any source of protein I could get my hands on}
 {Sunday morning breakfast with my parents at The Grove in Marina - AMAZING - so good}
 {Shabi and Dave (and baby Olive)'s cute little neighborhood}
 {little luxuries at Zen Day Spa in Lower Haight - don't go here. Manicure is great, people are miserable}
 {bridal cupcakes at Tortilla Heights in Pacific Heights}
 {morning fix from La Boulange}
{mom and dad get nuts}

Tonight I get to see my long lost friends for some CH homemade pizza and Tuesday night TV. It feels like a reunion of sorts - a reunion with my life.
