About Me

My photo
New York, New York
I enjoy simple things: solitude, cheap sheet cake, and sunlight. I also believe that white is, in fact, a color. Bring me fresh flowers and we can be friends.

Friday Musings

Summer definitely feels long gone and life is starting to pick up pace again. Not quite sure I'm ready for it, but I don't really have a choice.  The crisp fall air has got me craving a Breckenridge morning and I'm hoping I find myself there at some point this season. It was one of my favorite trips ever

In other news - Friday Musings:

Now that I've got my ghost chair - this image is making me want to simplify my desktop.

Definitely need to start figuring out some jewelry organization.

Craving mountain mornings. BAD.

Mixing sweatshirts with dressier skirts.

white, airy, plush - is that heaven?

Birthdays, BBQs, Jersey, and favorite friends are going to take over the weekend!!
Yeehaw!  Happy Friday!

Cheap Thrills

Sometimes when I find something that I like, I get a little extreme.
Case and point: cheap rhinestone statement necklaces.

It started with a wary purchase at Century 21, that I ended up wearing regularly, and moved on to the blue necklace from Forever 21, and then I just had to have the neon one from H&M.  Yesterday, I stopped in Forever 21 and picked up three more under the pretense of "layering" (aka my way of defending my obsession).

Cheap statement jewelry is my go-to way to play with trends without spending tons of money that I don't have.  The one downfall - it's cheap.  You don't want to get stuck at a social outing with green residue on your skin from your "super cute necklace" - that would be quite mortifying, no?

The solution - clear nail polish.  It's time consuming and a little bit annoying to do, but the payoff is awesome.  It not only seals the cheap plastic, but it also helps hold the rhinestones in so one doesn't go missing mid-date.

Try it!

I Want Wednesday

In lieu of my first night of grad school classes, today's I Want Wednesday is aspirational.

I want to be the badass female counterpart to Nick Wooster.

I was recently introduced to Nick Wooster (although I had seen hundreds of street style photos) by a particularly slick (and straight!) male friend.  This vest in particular is what sparked the conversation (my advice - BUY IT).

Besides being the definition of ultimate cool (THOSE SLEEVES OF TATTOOS- love), the guy is a total power house.  He's been behind the scenes at retailers such as Neiman Marcus and Park & Bond, and has recently moved on to back menswear at JC Penny.  On top of that, he is constantly behind his own collaborations (ones that in my opinion, all men should be aware of).  He is a man of many strengths and admired by many - especially me!

Nick Wooster - I am your biggest fan. Love, Mina.

Friday Musings

This weekend I have orientation for grad school (yikes), which means I won't catch a break until my day off on Monday.  I plan on picking up the pieces of my life that have fallen apart over the last three months.  That means I'll be: getting to bed early (, doing laundry, watering my plants, and ridding my apartment of that NYC layer of dust that is always lingering (real exciting stuff).  Maybe I'll sneak in some reading by candle light with a glass of rose - which seems to be my new favorite activity over socializing these days (real healthy for a 25 year old, right?).

Anyway, these images (and words) caught me this week:

I know summer's over, but I'm still on the hunt for the perfect white blazer.

This Serena Mitnik-Miller watercolor really tickles my fancy

Perfectly baggy jean shorts for the last days of the season when you can wear shorts and long sleeves (my favorite):

Could read all day in this glamorous girly room

Room of the Day

You probably don't have to guess that the white hardwood floors in this room are what drew me to it.  It is a total dream of mine to one day own an old country home where I can paint the floors white.  I've been drawn to wallpaper recently too (I still haven't stenciled my wall), and light fixtures for my closet are on my radar.  This room's got all three!

Workin' for the weekend (where I'll be workin' anyway at my grad school orientation - can a girl catch a break?)

An early morning in the Chelsea flower district, brunch (including INCREDIBLE Nutella pie) at Hundred Acres, long awaited nail art at Valley NYC (go!!),  a black and white cupcake at Little Cupcake Bakeshop, and an amazing Sunday night to celebrate my best friend's engagement.
One of the happiest weekends of my life.

Friday Musings

This weekend is full of celebrations for the closest of friends and I can't help feeling sentimental (sometimes I get weird). Engagements and birthdays - both milestones I'm happy to share with the most important people in my life.  Sometimes I wish I could just stash everyone I love in a room full of plush white couches and have everyone hang out in big cashmere sweaters with endless hot coffee.  Might sound creepy- but I am a creep, and that's my heaven. To each his own.

On another note, the change in season is feeling like a fresh start and I'm diggin' it.

Go to work outfit - blazer, boyfriend jeans, and heels:

I can't stop staring at this image. I need to find it blown up and hang it in my apartment ASAP.

Recipe: Greek Quinoa Salad

I snagged this recipe form With Style & Grace and quickly whipped it up one Sunday to store in my fridge for the week. It was quick and easy and can serve as an entire meal or as a side dish. I added tuna to mine for the protein but I wouldn't suggest it, it kind of overpowered the flavor of the salad.

1 1/2 cup quinoa
2 cups water
1 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 cup halved cherry tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped Kalamata olives
1/3 cup chopped red onion
2 chopped green onions
1 lemon
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 minced garlic cloves
salt and pepper
1/2 cup feta cheese
