About Me

I enjoy simple things: solitude, cheap sheet cake, and sunlight. I also believe that white is, in fact, a color. Bring me fresh flowers and we can be friends.

Friday Musings

This is the first weekend this summer that I will be spending in the city.  I'm excited to just relax, not pack a bag, and most of all - rip out my existing closet!

Here are some things that caught my eye this week:

White pants and a classic trench - the perfect early fall outfit

Wedding planning is on my mind, since my cousins wedding is coming up in October.  These place settings are so simple (and so cheap)

White on white - it never gets old for me. Mixing textures and fabrics is also a plus.

I haven't made a cake in a while and this cake really blows my mind. It just might be out of my league though.

My favorite blogger rocks it again - this is my ideal work outfit - I just don't own any of the necessary pieces to put it together. Shopping trip?

Happy Friday!  It's been a long, long week, no?

The Closet

One of the most luxurious parts of my apartment (in my opinion) is the closet.  Closet space is so hard to come by in New York City apartments, and even more so in a studio apartment.  I don't know how - but I somehow lucked out with a big walk in closet in my apartment.  I never had a walk in closet growing up - so the glory of it still makes me squeal with joy.

Since I moved in, I haven't done anything to the closet except put a dresser in and re-do the floors (which happened when I did the entire apartment).  The closet is a basic rectangle shape with two rows of shelving lining three walls and hanging racks under two of them (I put a dresser against the third wall). Although I've tried to organize with some wicker baskets - the thing is a mess. Clothes fall on me and handbags, yoga mats, and half used cans of paint are scattered along the top shelves.

I did my due diligence and looked into tons of options for a custom closet - Ikea, The Container Store, California Closets, Home Depot, and The Closet Factory.  After weighing my options (and budget), I finally decided to go with The Closet Factory.  It's the same concept as California Closets, and only a tiny bit cheaper, but I felt more comfortable with the consultant and with the fact that they were a smaller company.

The consultant and I worked together to count shoes (try counting your shoes - you'll feel nuts for having so many), measure how much space I needed for long hanging items and short hanging items, and decide on how many drawers I'd need. I decided to go with shelving units on the left and right side walls with the intention of putting a large floor leaning mirror against the back wall.  The final touches will be a new light fixture and a rug - at which point I will probably sleep in there because I'll love it so much.

The installation is next Wednesday and I've got the butterflies!

Friday Musings

I'm into monochrome outfits as of late - also shorts for work are my new thing.

Airy natural-feeling spaces

Awesome ideas for jewelery storage - I will definitely be picking these up at the Container Store once my closet renovation is finished

Casual outfits that are perfectly polished

Polka dots

The perfect everything bag. At an awesome price. I've got to snatch this up.

We're headed to Hunter Lake tomorrow morning for what has apparently become an annual girls trip (Check out the other times we went here and here).  BBQs, floating on the lake, and a stop at a winery on the way home - it's always nothing short of perfect!

I Want Wednesday

Since I've put down the deposit for my walk-in closet renovation, I've had the accessories for the space on my mind.  Mainly a large mirror, new light fixture, and new rug. Currently, I have two high shelves lining all three sides of the closet, and a hanging bar on the right side and the back side for clothing.  The left side of the closet is home to my refinished purple dresser (one of my first DIYs in the apartment - I will be sad to say goodbye).  The new layout (which I will share soon!) will have shelving and hanging racks on either side of the rectangular space, leaving the back wall open.

I've been keeping my eyes open for mirror styles that tickle my fancy - and I've realized that I am all over the place in regards to style - typical.  Here are a few that I've had bookmarked as inspiration:

It's just an itch, but I have a feeling I will end up with something big, white, and lacquer.

Friday Musings

This week has got me run down but I plan on getting in my fair share of relaxation (and boatloads of laundry) tonight. Here are a few ideas that have kept me inspired throughout the week:

A simple summer uniform: white shorts and a striped top:

Bar carts are always on my radar but this wallpaper and styling really tickles my fancy:

With so many weddings on the horizon, I've been doing a lot of inspiration hunting - and this photography stopped me in my tracks. String lights, casual whites, and a body of water - I'd like to superimpose myself in.

Lindsay's Palm Beach find - OBSESSED.  Since putting down the deposit for my walk in closet renovation, I've been on the hunt for a new light fixture. This chandelier put a whole new view into my head. How rad is it? I can't get over it.

As temperatures are at the peak of the season - I find myself less inspired when I get dressed in the morning. This outfit reminded me that sometimes great basics can make the best outfits.

I guess I'm drawn to bright pinks as of late. I think the counter top below speaks for itself, no?

Happy Friday the 13th! I can't wait until I can melt onto my couch tonight.

I Want Wednesday

This week is flying by and every time I think I have a minute to sit, I realize it's late and I'd rather be sleeping. My loud air conditioner is currently on the top of my **** list for keeping me up at night.

On another note, this morning when I was getting dressed I found myself wishing this J.Crew Cabochon fan necklace was a part of my jewelery collection. I'm currently smitten with the color and it would have made my day.

Yes, I'm actually wearing exactly this (minus the J. Crew necklace, plus a chevron necklace) to work today.

Happy Hump Day!

Happy Fourth of July Weekend!!

I hope you've made the right decision and taken some time off work to relish in the holiday that marks the peak of the best season of the year.

Why don't you up the festivity factor a bit by trying one of these things:

Grab some sparklers (I got some at the dollar store) and bring them as a gift. It's a never fail way to feel like you're 12 again.

Fourth of July fruit skewers. Need I explain more?

These festive strawberries are SO easy - no bake!

Don't hesitate to make a statement. I'll be rocking my overalls. Doesn't get more American than that, right?

Before you know it we'll be piling layers upon layers onto pale skin and trekking through brown snow turned slush in the city streets to and from work. So be sure to savor every second.

Happy 4th of July!!
