I enjoy simple things: solitude, cheap sheet cake, and sunlight. I also believe that white is, in fact, a color. Bring me fresh flowers and we can be friends.

Do you have $3,400?

Me neither. BUT if I did, I'd snatch this lucite table right off Craig's List.

Lucite AND scallopped edges? Love.

It's from The Paris Apartment in Miami. I've never been, but next time I'm there, it will be a priority.  I will also be sure that I magically have a wad of cash in my back pocket.  I have a feeling there are a couple of things I would like to bring home with me.

A Day at the Greenwich Polo

Last Saturday was a day that I hope can become an annual tradition to celebrate the coming of fall.  Having never been to Connecticut, I'm pretty sure the Greenwich Polo Club was a good first impression.

A day filled with copious amounts of red wine, cheese, mini sliders, puppies, Nacho Figuras (did you know he actually played polo??), Valentino, and good company...this is my kind of sporting event!!!

Happy Friday!

Friday Musings: Weddings

I am obsessed with weddings; I just think they are the happiest thing you can celebrate.  Plus, they always call for a great party (have you ever been to a wedding that wasn't fun?). Even after all of that, the decor and aura of weddings is what thrills me the most (second to the bride and groom, of course). The highlight of my year last year was Kerry and Casey's wedding. It was one of the best days of my life- no joke. Everything was perfect.

When I came across Mara and Matthew's wedding on her blog M loves M, I was just as much in love as I was last year around this time at Kerry and Casey's wedding. If I get married, I have a few requirements I am not willing to sacrifice - an all white cake, ranunculus and peonies, string lights, and a photo booth.  Mara and Matthew had it all!

{all photos from M loves M}

I'd like to have a wedding for myself instead of a birthday party this year. Thoughts on that?

P.S. - I thought I woke up an hour late this morning, rushed around like a madwoman, and thought I was getting to work half an hour late.  Once I got to work, NOBODY was at the office. I continued to think we had the day off. Until I looked at my watch, I was actually 45 minutes EARLY.
Is this real life?

Magic Carpet Ride

There once was a time where I had my fill of magic carpet rides; it was called Senior Week and it took place in the Outer Banks directly following graduation (long story).  Since then, I hadn't given the textile much thought until I realized that my constant furniture shuffle was starting to beat up my new floors.

Picking out an area rug has turned out to be a much more difficult task than anticipated - mainly because there are A MILLION ugly rugs out there. I am pretty sure I have narrowed down the options to something in the grey family (or maybe a red?) in a geometric, repeating pattern.

My final complaint: MAN, rugs are pricey, even at wal-mart. Who knew??

Till Next Year, Summer

So it looks like fall is creeping in on me already.

Although I do love the idea of chunky sweaters, pumpkins, red wine and apple orchards, I by no means have had my fill of summer. A while back I had made a list of things I wanted to do before summer came to a close.  I can't say I've crossed off every item on the list, but I give myself the authority to extend the deadline until winter to get those couple things done.

I basically got all the important FUN things checked off the list:

1. Go to Coney Island

2. Put knobs on my kitchen cabinets / paint the kitchen

6. Go to Governor's Island

8. Make my DIY chandelier

9. Re-paint the bathroom (chevron anyone?)

14. Swim in the ocean until my fingers are pruney

P.S. - My friend Chris made that illustration. I love it because everything he does is THE coolest, although, not too sure if I should be offended or flattered.... thoughts?

Recipe: Southwestern Quinoa

I am always looking for easy salads and side dishes that can last for days in the fridge. When I came across this recipe on Simply Scrumptious, I immediately knew it was something I'd love.  Add it to the list of salads that are always in a Tupperware in my fridge along with health salad and sweet potato and black bean salad.

Ingredients:

1 Cup Quinoa
Tomato
2 Ears of Corn - Remove corn from ear
Red onion
1 Can Black Beans - drained and rinsed
1 Avocado
1 Jalapeno  (seeds removed and diced small)
Cilantro
Garlic
Olive Oil
Limes
Salt
Pepper
Cumin
Chili Powder
Directions:
Cook the quinoa according to the package directions and set aside.  Saute the corn, jalapeno, black beans, and garlic for about 5 minutes. In a separate bowl, mix lime juice, 2 tbsp cumin, 1 tbsp chili powder, and salt and pepper to taste.  Once everything is prepared, combine all ingredients, chill, and enjoy!
